Conversion of a disused church building into flats and extension of existing adjacent terrace

Dust was approached with a challenging task to remodel a disused church hall site into a residential development serving the local community.

The proposal provides a mix of accommodation from one-bed flats to family housing and includes units allocated for discounted market rent. The scheme was developed to make the most effective use of the site while paying careful attention to its history, architectural qualities and context. The scheme is carefully detailed to maximise natural light, external amenity and outlook for future occupants while respecting the visual amenity of the neighbouring residents. The design aims to transform the currently derelict site into a carefully woven residential enclave that pays homage to its historic setting and street scene while forging a contemporary character of its own.
