When a client with young children approached d u s t to help bring their dilapidated post-war home near Wandsworth Common back to life, the team set about learning what practical needs the family had and what would work best for them in the long run. At the top of the brief was a wish to extend the semi-detached property at the rear so that the garden would be intrinsically linked to the high-traffic living areas used every day. By setting large bi-folding doors underneath a small overhanging canopy, a new ‘in between’ zone – almost like an extra room – was created. Flush glass window and timber cladding set within a neatly rendered frame bring the various design elements together – subtly accentuated by concealed ambient lighting that warm the space in the evening.
